Carrying the Olympic Torch . . .

2015 June 28

On June 30th 2012 I carried the Olympic Torch through my home town of Burton on Trent.  I was honoured to be nominated and chosen for something so amazing.  This presentation tells the story of why I was nominated, my reaction to being told the news and of the day itself.

"Just another big thank-you to you, really, for the superb Tuesday afternoon you gave us at Paulet the other week.  Kids and staff loved every minute of it - it was one of those events that will go down in the school's history, no doubt about that."

The talk is full of information about the torch itself and the Olympic flame and the various places it has been.  I narrate the story using photographs of the day as well as talking in more details about why i was chosen.

"Thank you very much for coming to visit the "3rd Whittington Brownies".  They really enjoyed your talk and seeing the Olympic Torch"

I bring my Olympic Torch to all of my presentations and there is always the opportunity for photographs to be taken with it.  The honour of carrying the was incredible in itself, but the opportunities to share the experience with people young and old since has been a true highlight.

"Ian, your talk was amazing, the children were so excited by your visit and I've never known them to be so quiet during an assembly.  The staff learnt a lot about the torch too!.  Thank you so much"

Next year the Olympics will be with us again and already I've been booked by a local WI to share my experience of the day in June when I ran with the Olympic flame!

If you have an event you would like me to attend to talk about my Olympic Torch experience, please email me at ijleech@hotmail.co.uk
